  • Frogs have been around since long before Australia existed as an independent land mass.
  • Australia has some of the smallest and largest frogs in the world
  • The are currently about 210 species of frog in Australia. There are approximately 4000 frog species in the world
  • Australia's frogs occupy a wide range of habitats, from the deserts to the highest mountains.
  • Frogs have a body surrounded by a skin that is porous, allowing both air and water to pass directly through it.
  • Frogs do not drink water through their mouths at all - it is absorbed through the skin on their lower abdomen.
  • Because frogs are so sensitive to changes in environmental conditions they can act as 'environmental indicators'. This means that by looking at the status and health of frogs we can tell something about the status and health of the ecosystem, in other words frogs can tell us when there is something wrong in our environment.
