Saving Water is the Future

Climate change has already affected Queensland’s water security.

The last 20 years have seen a drop in average rainfall across Queensland, increasing the pressure on our rivers and waterways. Saving water and using our water supplies more efficiently is the key to meeting our future needs and saving many of Queensland’s rivers.
Queensland needs to save water at every opportunity - in the home, at the office and on the farm. Queensland Conservation has identified the following priorities to secure our water future:

Urban

  • reduce water use in the home by 50%
  • install rainwater tanks on all appropriate houses
  • install water efficient appliances in all houses
  • implement water recycling for urban uses.

Rural

  • reduce water use by 40%
  • install water efficiency technology on all irrigation systems
  • transfer existing licenses to meet water needs
  • increase the price of water

Industrial

  • convert to recycled and reused water
  • upgrade with water efficient technology
  • increase the price of water and wastewater

Building more dams will push many of our rivers over the edge. Queensland does not need a disaster like the lower Murray - Darling. We need to avoid this at all costs.
