Grow Local
is about getting people involved in growing food locally in back
yardsand community gardens. It’s about understanding where our food
comes from and supporting local farmers.
Grow Local
will help to reduce food miles and cut greenhouse emissions whilere
connecting people with their local landscape to ensure SEQ has healthy,
active communities.
Queensland Conservation is proud to present an exclusive pre-release screening of Our Seeds: Seeds Blong Yumi a film celebration of the keepers of the seed- the farmers and gardeners who preserve and share the source of our diverse food heritage.
Filmed across eleven countries by Seedsavers Network founders Jude and Michel Fanton it shows that common threats to food quality and health have local solutions.
Sydney’s renowned sustainability coach Michael Mobbs will speak about hisnew initiative Food for the Future - growing food on the streets of inner cityChippendale using rainwater harvested from nearby terrace houses. Food for the Future also integrates Community Supported Agriculture and sends back valuable organic material from the city to the farm.

Rare Flora Survey Group Training - Brisbane (9:00AM - 3:00PM)
Do you want to make a significant contribution to what we know about Queensland's rare and threatened plants?
That National Parks Association of Queensland is about to start training volunteers to undertake rare flora surveys of public and private lands that are part of the protected area estate in Queensland. each survey will be led by a field botanist in conjuction with EPA staff.
The first three surveys will be conducted on private properties in the Stanthorpe area, tentatively scheduled for early November. Plant identification training for these surveys will be held on:
Friday 24th October 9am to 4pm at the NPAQ offices at 10/36 Finchley St, Milton

Climate Smart 2050 Review - Consultation Ends (5:00PM)
The Queensland Government is reviewing, updating and consolidating its current ClimateSmart 2050: Queensland climate change strategy 2007 and Queensland’s ClimateSmart Adaptation 2007-12: an action plan for managing the impacts of climate change in light of the latest scientific assessments as well as national and international developments in climate change and climate change policy.As part of the review process, the Queensland Government is seeking public input and ideas towards developing future programs and policies to support reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and help Queensland adapt to the impacts of climate change. An Issues Paper – Review of the Queensland Government climate change strategy has now been released for public consultation.The Issues Paper identifies relevant issues in each of Queensland’s major sectors to inform the review, including: - energy
- industry
- community
- planning and building
- primary industries
- transport
- government leadership
- ecosystems.
The Queensland Government welcomes your feedback.
